Lexus Repair: Tranmission neutralizing, lexus rx300, power steering pump

Question
I have a '99 lexus rx300 with 110k miles. The tranmission will neutralize after driving about .5 miles,if I turn the car off and restart, it will be OK for another .5 mile.I hear a winding type noise at times such as a power steering pump low on fluid.I changed the fluid about two years ago.Is there any chance I may have a clogged filter? Because of the winding noise does the transmission definitely need to be rebuilt?

Answer
Hello Ron, Lexus transmissions do not have a filter that needs to be changed. It sounds like it may be either your tranmsiion pump or the torque convertor. I would say at 110k that it would need to be rebuilt. When you had the fluid changed did you have it done at Lexus. There is a special fluid for the RX and anyone other than Lexus may not have put the right fluid in it.
