Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 2000 Lincoln LS Alpine radio display not working, alpine radio, 2000 lincoln ls

Question
I have a 2000 LS V8 w/ Alpine cassett/ (6) CD changer.  For a few months the display (LCD?) where the radio station/CD tracks/etc. shows was dimming, but with a few taps on the screen it would fully illuminate.  Now it's completely out and nothing I do brings it back!  I'm confused because all the other lights in the panel work, it's just perhaps the most important one that doesn't!  My hubby thinks I should replace it and get an XM ready after market stereo, but I just can't stand the look of them.  I want to keep my factory radio and hopefully repair the display, but then again, I don't want to have to shell out hundreds of $$ to fix it either.  Any chance a fuse is out?  Or rather, any chance it is a repair my somewhat electronically savvy hubby can do?  Please advise!!!  I greatly appreciate any and all feedback (even if it's not what I want to hear).
Thanks,
Erin

Answer
Hi Erin,

You might try looking on eBay for that radio or at the junkyards in your town. It's likely someone will have it used. It would cost more to have yours fixed than it would to buy one. And I agree with you, I have the factory radio in my Navie and I love it. I could have traded some transmission work for one of those DVD things with touch screen, but I like my radio!
