Lincoln/Mercury Repair: lincoln 2000 ls. Please help?, leak leaks, chase the cat

Question
I just purchased a 2000 ls with 80000 miles. The AC unit blows hot at its maxium cooling setting. I figuered being the age it is the freon or the r134a is running low. to my suprise I only found a hi side and the low side is yet to be found though I did find out that this car needs a A/C EXPANSION VALVE priced at 4.00 (and yet I still dont know where to connect it.) in order to make a low side availiable. (If you will, a sort of tube.) another thing I notice is that the ac compressor does not engage at all nor does it make any cliking sound as a normal compressor should. At this point I dont think it is the r134a any more and I hope its not the compressor as I priced it at 400.00 at a local auto parts store. I also came to conlusion that a valve may be at fault here.

please lead me to the right direction and should I do if any repairs my self or cough up the doogh?

Charlie,

Let's start at the beginning and tell me why you need to?? Let's chase the cat up the right tree! hehehe

Answer
Hi Charlie,

The compressor will not come on if there is no freon in the system. But, if there is no freon in the system, then there is a leak. Leaks are the single reason my shop does not do A/C. Nightmare. In the mean time, I have a really nice picture of all the components locations and will gladly share it with you, but I need your email due to the inablilty to send pics in this media.
