Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 94 Mercury Grand Marquis burning oil, mercury grand marquis, valve seals

Question
Hi Pete,

I have a big problem with my 94 Mercury Grand Marquis. It has a 4.6 litre V8 and the odometer is at 120,000 miles. If I drive the car daily and use it for everything that I need, I have to put around 1 to 2 quarts of oil every week in the car. The engine runs very smooth and has incredible power. Frankly I am impressed at the power and strength of the engine. I have been trying for over 6 monthts to get a straight answer from someone who specializes in Ford engines and does this type of engine repair. Here are the Questions:

Question #1

You know how there are certain engines that are known to go for 200,00 miles or more without any significant oil consumption or without any engine problem. Is the 4.6 that kind of engine or not. Is there a way to check and be fairly sure that the oil consumption is happening through the valve seals and not the rings. Even though it doesn't seem like there is any ring problem because of the incredible strength and smoothness of the engine. I would like to be sure before I invest money in repairing the engine. Usually experienced mechanics that work on engines get to know the engine inside and out. I know that If I could just get to the right person that is very familiar with the 4.6 litre V8, I can get the answer to my question.

I really like the car, it drives like a dream but I don't want to repair the valve seals and find out that it was coming through the bottom.

Question #2
Does the 4.6 litre V8 have any inherent problem with the oil burning through the valve seals after 100,00 miles or so. And if it does and I replace the valve seals without removing the heads can I expect it to last or is there typically a possible problem after that type of repair on this particular engine.

I really appreciate your input on this I have not been able to get a straight answer or maybe I haven't found the right mechanic that is completely familiar with this engine.

Thank You for your help
