Toyota: use of gear/how to avoid speed breaker, toyota vitz, speed breakers

Question
dear sir,
1-i have a toyota vitz model 2006, the bottom of the car touches the speed breaker even at a very low speed. please advise way to avoid touching bottom, what can be damaged due to touching the speed breakers.
2-when to shift the gear from "D" to "S"

Answer
Dear Ahmed,

If the  under body of the car touches the speed breaker even at very low speeds, then it is better that you consult a mechanic and have the suspension ride height adjusted suitably. The shock absorbers might have to be replaced. Wont cost a lot though.

As for the gear shifting, the Vitz is somewhat similar to a continuously variable transmission.

So, the options 'S' and I guess 'B' are part of the optional manual transmission.

S stands for a Short gear ratio... So, its like a third gear in a normal manual transmission.

B stands for engine braking... So, the speed reduces by quite a lot when you shift to this.

In both the 'S' and 'B' modes, you'll notice a definite increase in engine rpm.

Thank You.

Yours truly,
Sriky.
