Mazda Repair: 1999 mazda miata, mazda miata, rubber hammer

Question
QUESTION: Thank you in advance for your answer...here goes. I have a 1999 miata, for the last couple of weeks the engine warning light has been on.  Yesterday, the car would not turn over and has since not started. The battery was fully charged and I was told all the hoses looked ok. Before I take it in is there anything else that can be checked?  I hate taking it in for something simple and spending a fortune I dont have. any help is greatly appreciated.

p.s. I have a viper 471t alarm in it..I don't know if that would effect the electrical but thought I would let you know..

Again, thank you

ANSWER: the alarm can have something to do with it but not likely. have you checked for all the common things a car needs eg. fuel, spark, ect?

QUESTION: fuses, fluids, belts, hoses are all ok...cranks but will not fire. starter fluid was put in the inlet manifold a few times and we got a varoom out of it but that was it.  gas pedal had no effect during this process.  what would you check next?  Once again thanks for your time. If it is the fuel pump can you tell me how to get to it or is there a place where we can find a diagram of the fuel system

Answer
you can check the fuel pump by listening for a humming from the tank have someone turn the key to the on position while you listen buy the tank for a slight hum if you don't hear on give the take a wack with a rubber hammer and see if the car turns over if you don't hear the hum or the car turns over after you hit the tank replace the fuel pump.
