mazda millenia 1996 109.000 miles v6 2.5l the engine hesitates and looses power when foot is on gas. why would this  happen? is the engine dead? does it need a tune up ?

THe first thing you are going to have to do is do an engine compression test. All cylinders shuold not vary more than about 20 percent. that will show the condition of the engine,, While the plugs are out for the comperession test that is when you can check the condition of the ignition system. Does the engine puff alot of smoke out of the tailpipe? these where bad for failing superchargers, These are very costly to repair. Evfen for the rebuild its almost 3000 dollars. IT is possible that the fuel pressure is low as well, have somebody check the compression and the fuel pressure.....
