Mazda Repair: Repairing Rear Air Conditioning on MPV Lx, 2000 mazda mpv, heater cores

Question
I only get hot air from the rear, floor, vents on my minivan. 2000 Mazda Mpv lx. The front air is perfect, and the whole van is cooled off by it... but it is not full summer heat. Would like to try to fix this myself. Nothing seems to make a difference, rear controls, switching the front controls through the different settings, defrost through floor etc. settings. All else is great.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Daniel
Thanks for asking. On some MPV's there are two seperate air control systems. One in the front and one in the rear meaning two heater cores and two evaporators. There are many reasons for Ac to cut out on you, I would start by checking the blend door in the rear of the van on the passagener side.( Open the lifgate, remove the trim from right hand side and the air box is locted there) when you have the panel off  turn the temp, control IN THE REAR not in the front and watch for the blend door operation. Check if the blower motor is operating normally on all speeds. And if this doesnt work you should stop there and take it to a Mazda dealer, I dont know about where you live but here we have to have a license to work on A/C equipment. And the problem may be complex. But try my suggestion and get back to me.
Good luck
