Mercedes Benz repair: Mercedes-Benz 1991 300E 4-matic, mercedes benz dealer, 4 matic

Question
I have the above vehicle.  My 4-matic has been giving me problems for the last year or so (I drive less than 10k a year and we only get snow 2 months a year.)  The 4-matic light would get stuck on and they replaced the sensor a couple times, but it would happen again.  Finally it just went out and the 4-matic stopped working.  They advised I had to replace the entire pump system, which they did almost $2000 later.  But when I got it home, it still did not work and the light did not come on.  So brought it back and in the diagnositics, the had trouble getting a reading (said it took forever) but now they say I need to replace the entire sensor module and it will be $2,000 for the part plus about 7 hours of labor.  This is more than the car is worth at this point.  I find it very frustrating.  I've loved this car, but at this point it doesn't seem worth fixing...because of their not catching the real problem at first they have agreed to pay for half the cost of the part only of the sensor module, but still not sure it is worth it.  Does this sound like they really are on to the right problem before I take another chance?  thank you, Sandy

Answer
I have no idea without seeing the readings. Is the a certified MB dealer that has been working on your vehicle?
I do not know what kind of consumer protection you have in your area. Where I am at in Miami (The miami Dade Conty Consumer Services Dept) Regulates all automotive repair facilities. Now if this is a Mercedes Benz Dealer that has been repairing your car. The Service Advisor should have explained to you the posibility of additional reapirs may be needed if they did not. Well just let me know who has been working on it and I WILL TRY TO HELP YOU OUT
