MG Car Repair: Engine 1976 Midget, mg midget, wd 40

Question
I have 76 MG Midget. About 8 years ago I had the engine re-furbed but the engine was never started (ran out of $) I now would like to try and start the engine. First what do I need to just try to start the engine and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Answer
Hi Michael,
First remove the spark plugs and put about two teaspoons of a light oil or something like WD-40 in each cylinder and rotate the engine several times by hand. Then use the starter motor to blow the excess out. When the engine is installed and oil in it, again with the plugs out spin the engine until you see oil pressure on the gauge. You should see at least 35 PSI on the gauge with the starter motor and plugs out. Less than that, something is wrong and you should correct it before proceeding.

As for the car, you should drain the fuel and lines and test the fuel pump and clean the carb/s
