MG Car Repair: 1972 mg midget, oil pressure gauge, throttle linkage

Question
QUESTION: Hi.My temp&oil gauge are not working, where sould i start to fix.It has the smith gauges. Thank you Dewayne

ANSWER: Hi Dewayne,
The oil pressure gauge is hydraulic and a pipe goes to the engine block to monitor oil pressure. You need to check to see if the pipe is clear all the way to the gauge.
The temperature gauge is also a pipe filled with a fluid and sealed. A temp bulb is mounted in the head close to the thermostat. There is no home repair you can do to this gauge if it has failed.

QUESTION: Hi Howard, Thank you. Should i buy a new smith gauge or some other kind. Also my throttle stuck, I cleaned the linkage and it has new oil in the piston dampers.it has the su carbs. Thank you again Dewayne.

Answer
Dewayne, I can't tell you what to buy, that is your decision.

As for a sticking throttle you need to disconnect the cable from the throttle linkage and check to see you don't have a pedal sticking or no return spring on the throttle linkage, then check to see if the cable is dry or has strands coming apart. Then repair what you find wrong. It is no use throwing money at a problem until you know exactly what is wrong.
