Military Vehicle Repair: not military but , 24volt to 12volt, 6 volt batteries, 12 volt batteries

I HAVE AN OLDER SEMI TRUCK (1982 KW) ONLY THE STARTER REQUIRES 24 VOLTS,I WOULD LIKE TO RUN  4 STANDARD 12VOLT BATTERIES IN A PARALLEL SETUP, (REPLACING THE FOUR -6VOLT BATTERIES )HOW DO I RUN 24 VOLT'S TO THE STARTER AND KEEP 12 VOLTS TO EVERY THING ELSE, AND DO AWAY WITH THAT OLD DINASOUR OF A SOLINOID HOUSED IN THE BATTERY BOX? ANY HELP WOULD BE OF GREAT USE.

Hi Jack,
That is the kind of stuff I do, but there is no way I can explain it on here.
You can easily replace the 6 volt batteries with 12 volt batteries, and still use the 24 volt starter.
You could also get a 12 volt starter.

But if you are not good at that rewiring stuff, a starter/alternator shop could probably be quite helpful.
