Mitsubishi Repair: 4cly Mitsibishi mirage 2003, mitsibishi mirage, oil filter housing

Question
Hi mate my sisters mirage was low on oil an clunking filled up with oil now still clunking with oil pressure light still on. Can you help.

Answer
Pat,
The oil pressure light is triggered by a sensor located on your oil filter housing.  If there is a clogged in that area, like your oil filter is clogged, it can trip that light to come on.  The clunking could be a result of the clog.  It may be due to lack of oil getting to the oil pump or other component reliant on that oil passing over it.  You may want to replace the oil filter, with new fresh oil to see if that noise and oil light goes away.  Be sure you're using the proper oil viscosity (weight).  If you live in the part of Australia that ever gets below 0 degrees, be sure to use a 5W-30 engine oil. Else, a 10W-30 would work.  Consult your owners manual for manufacturer recommendations.
Good luck!
