I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport Ls 3.0 V6 i have a little trans mission leak so one day it started slipping and i put fluid back in it and it stopped and then few days later on take off the back would shake so check  the fluid and add more and that stopped then the very next day i had no reverse still shifts fine but nuetral "drives" in a low gear but 1st and second gear still work they say its the transmission but still runs and drives great but in park you mash the gas RPM will not go over 2000

Randy: You need to change the fluid and the filter, when doing this check the pan to see how much metal you find in it. Mean while the car will not shift because the computer has put in into a "safety mode", then once you change the fluid and the filter then take the neg cable off the battery to see if the computer resets its self. If not then there is a bad or weak sensor in there. So you will need to get the car coded to find out the problem. But you really need to change the filter in the transmission and the fluid; also put in a transmission contitioner too, parts stores sell that and  it can really help a sick transmission. If you don't do these things, you just as well as get a different transmission in your car. God bless: Linda
