Answer
Base timing is 5 degrees.  To set the timing you will need to ground the timing adjustment terminal, which is located against the firewall, near the battery. There are two there the larger connector is the one you want to remove and then ground that terminal. That will put it into base timing mode. The timing indicator is on the front of the engine under the water pump pulley. I believe tdc looks like a T. Simply check the timing with a light and make small adjustments at the crank angle sensor at the passenger side of the valvecover until the mark (which is a small notch on the crankshaft pulley) lines up with the notch before (towards the front of the car) the TDC mark. This will indicate 5 degrees before and then tighten down the Crank Angle sensor and disconnect the ground to the timing adjustment connector. Timing usually reads around 10 degrees with it disconnected and timed correctly.

Of course, the number one cylinder is the cylinder closest to the front of the engine, timing belt side, which is on the driver's side.
