Mitsubishi Repair: fule light stay on, gas gauge, fuel light

Question
90 Ecilpes 2.0 non tubo fuel light stays on when theres gas filled up to top. What would cause mil light to come when I have gas.
Thanks Joe

Answer
Joe,
The light is controlled by a sensor in the gas tank (I believe attached to the sending unit on the fuel pump).  Over time, the sending unit can fail and cause this problems like this.  Does your gas gauge still work to indicate whether the tank is full or not?  On a car that's over 17 years old, it's not uncommon for these type of items to start to go bad.  If your gas gauge still works, and you don't care about the light working or not, you don't have to do anything.  Though you may want to remove the bulb for that light so it doesn't bother you.
Good luck!
