Mitsubishi Repair: 91 Mitsi galant vr4 2.0 turbo, dip stick, trans fluid

Question
We have the above vehicle, and from net search seem to have identified that it is stuck in limp mode. We have topped up the trans fluid, as it seemed low, but now seem to have air being sucked through the trans dip stick well. Not sure really what else to try.

Answer
Steve: Good Morning, hey why not change the fluid, filter and put in an tramsmission conditioner. It might help the problem. And it would clear any air from the system. How do you know that air is being sucked through the trans dip stick well? Never heard that one before. What color is your fluid? Pink? Pink/brown? Or all brown and it smells burnt? You know don't you that the computer controls your transmission and how it shifts? If it is stuck in limp mode, the computer is picking up a problem and so will not let the transmission shift. I would change the fluid, filter and add that conditioner(you can buy this at any parts store, it will clean and help the transmission a lot). And then see what happens after that, you could also have the computer coded to see what is kicked back at you too. If you take the car in to get that fluid, filter changed don't let the shop talk you out of that conditioner, either go out and buy a bottle yourself or get the shop to put one in for you. But at the time when in the shop, get the car coded to see what the computer is saying about this limp mode. It might have put the transmission into this limp mode, because it felt the transmission was not shifting right. And that might be due to the fact that the fluid and filter needed to be changed. Or it could be from a bad sensor someplace or even the computer could be bad. As your car is the right year for bad computers. But first off let's get that transmission looked at. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
