Mitsubishi Repair: 97 Eclipse, fuse box, fuel pump

Question
QUESTION: I replaced the fuel pump and filter a month ago.  The car ran for about a month and then just quit.  It trys to turn over but will not start.

ANSWER: David,
Check to make sure the connection to the fuel pump is still connected.  Depending on the model of Eclipse you have, that may be located under the spare tire in the trunk.  Also check the ignition fuse in the fuse box under your hood.  If there was a problem with fuel getting to the engine, it may have blown that fuse.
Good luck!

QUESTION: I tried everything you said and the fuses are good.  The only connection I know of is under the seat where the fuel pump goes.  I checked under the spare tire and nothing is there.  I also checked the fuel pump on my battery and it works but once I install it I do not hear it come on.  The car is 97 eclipse rs.

Answer
David,
If the fuel pump turns on with a direct connection to the battery, but fails to come on when connected the normal way, then this could be an issue with your car's computer.  The computer is detecting a problem, which is preventing the fuel pump from activating.  This is not easy to track down unless you are familiar with the wiring diagram for your ignition and fuel system and know how to trace the circuit with a multimeter.  You may want to have the car brought to a mechanic to further diagnose your problem.  Sorry I couldn't help more.
Good luck!
