Mitsubishi Repair: Alterator, alternator problem, battery fluid

Question
I had the battery leaking and when I replaced the battery, the check engine light had come on when I got home. As I opened the hood, I saw battery fluid all over the engine. I gather that it is an alternator problem? Does my 93 Eclipse have a voltage regulator or is it in the alternator like chevy?

Answer
Thomas: Like a chevy, in that the voltage regulator in in the alternator, you could remove the neg cable off the battery, wait 5 minutes and see if that clears the computer. That might shut off the check engine light. You can have the alternator tested before you go out and buy a new one, should you not need one. You might check the belts too, they might be slipping. Hope this helps and good luck! ~Linda~
