-----Question-----
i drive a 92 Mitsubishi eclipse.  While I am driving the engine just dies. There is not noise, sound, smell, nothing it just turns off to having my key in the start position.  When i try to restart it, it turns and i get a burnt gas or oil smell.  Depending on how long i wait to restart it it will start and then die right away or if i lit it sit for a while it will start right up with no problem.  It does not have a pattern of weather, time of day, or number of days.  it will run for a week and then die or i wont even make it out of the parking lot.  I took it to the mechanic and they did a diagnostic on it and it came back with random codes that they said met nothing, the car would start when they did the test.  they gave the car back to me because they could never get the car to break when it was in the shop and by the time they can get to it when it is broken it is working by then.  I need help!!!

Tell you girl, you got some problems. When is the last time you had a tune up? Is there an AutoZone close to you, that you might take the car to? They would run those codes down for you and then you would know what sensors are out or going out. If your car just stops running, the fuel pump is not sending the fuel needed to run the car. I know that Mitsubishi and another company made the computers in your car and others like it; that are not lasting. So it could be your computer is dying. You can have that rebuild or get another one. Best bet is to check on line for that computer. But mean while you need to know what sensors are going out or out. There are codes that will show up, like the fuel pump sensor is code 42, there is like 24 different codes on your car. To make an engine run you need air, fuel and stark. That is why I think there is a sensor someplace causing your problems. I got to say if they ran a diagnostic on it but got random codes but nothing met anything. Does not make any sense to me, either they did not want to work on your car and some places do not like working on imports. Or they did not know how to read the codes. I am hoping there is an AutoZone you can take it to. Or if the first place was not pulling your chain on this, then I would say your computer is dying. But I always get a second garage to check things, when the first one says it can not help me. So go someplace else. Try to find someplace to put the car on their computer and then get a read out on those codes. Get an repair book on your car and it will tell you what those codes mean. I hope this helps you and good luck!

Answer
It sure could have, look what I have learned about the computer and the car I was working on at the time was a 91 Eclipse, only it would not start. But turned out to be the computer, those computers have a piece in them that starts to leak it's inside out and that cooks the computer. I would say if the computer was not getting the right read outs, it shuts the car off. But while talking to a friend tonight, he said you should have your fuel pump relay checked too. I am thinking more the computer but there is something else you could have checked. Hope this helps and good luck!
