Mitsubishi Repair: Mitshubishi Galant 1987, weather change, tune ups

Question
I have a 1987 Mitshubishi Galant and whenever the weather gets cold I have problems with the car moving.  During the summer I don't have this problem, but recently with the slight weather change it seems like its not ready to go.  I warm the car up for about 10-15 min. and it doesn't really help. It seems like its getting worse.  Also when I initally start the car there's a puff of black smoke then it stops after I start going.  Sometimes when I reach a certain speed the car starts to tremble, not from tires, but from something else; the car loses some speed.

Answer
Julissa,
Cold weather always pulls more strain on a car; especially one that is around 20 years old.  I'd recommend having your engine oil changed and your transmission fluid replaced before the weather gets colder.  Those two fluids are critical to make your car run properly in colder temperatures.  It would also be a good idea to have your coolant flushed and filled if it's been over 2 years since you've done that last.

Regular tune-ups and preventative maintenance is essential in an older car like yours; even if you only drive it a few thousand miles a year.  But keep up the regular maintenance on it, your Galant could easily last you another 20 years.
Good luck!
