Mitsubishi Repair: Sensors & AC-Heater & Fan PROBLEM!!!, advanced auto parts, mitsubishi mirage

Question
Hello I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage (1.5 liter-coupe)..I left my head lights on yesterday morning at 8:40 am until 5:00pm! My battery was dead & we tried to jump it - it took for ever to charge - once we got it jumped..we took the cables off & it died (tried this a few times)...It turned out to be the alternator which we replaced today as well as a new battery because the alternator burned it up...we got all that done & my radio & console lights weren't working...so went to auto store & got new fuses because they were blown..Got everything working but now my a/c , blower & heater won't work at all now & the sensor lightes are on (faintly though)! What is the problem? PLEASE HELP!!

Answer
Farrah,
It sounds like something may still be wrong with the charging system (alternator and battery).  It's pretty tough to blow fuses unless the alternator was not installed properly.  Also, if at any point the battery was hooked up backwards, that could cause serious problems to eletrical components.  When you say your sensor lights are on (faintly), I'm guessing you're referring to your lights on your instrument panel.  Those lights will display dimmly if there is a problem with the alternator.  You should take your car back to the mechanic that installed your alternator and have him check the ground connections and the alternator fuse.  There may be a short or poor ground in the system somewhere.  Many auto parts stores like AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts, and Pepboys can check your alternator for free.  If you have one of those stores in your area, you may want to go there and have them test your alternator.  If it's not putting out the rated amount of current that a new alternator should be putting out, there's definitely a problem there.
Good luck!
