Mitsubishi Repair: Engine turns but car dies out..., blown fuse, eclipse gs

Question
I just purchased a 2000 Eclipse GS 2.4l. It is a standard. My father decided he wanted to pay to have my subs,cd player, and 2 amps installed. it is an x-mas gift. i ususally do audio myself yet he insisted to get it "professionally" done.  The car ran fine all the way from Mich. back home to Ohio when we picked it up. After we dropped it off at a local audio place which we have done business w/ before and had no problems... we went to pick it up and it would not start. We let it sit for a while and it started but would not stay. being a little mad for my car not starting after being in their hands we tried to figure out the problem... my guesses are the crank positioning sensor, the computer, or some wiring problems... what do you believe may be the problem and could it have been caused by the audio company and should we bill them the reciept? any help would be much appreciated. thank you

Answer
Todd,
Check all your fuses on and near your battery cables.  With all that stereo equipment installed, it may have overloaded your alternator and blew your fuse.  It's not too uncommon, but it should have been checked by your stereo install shop.  If you find the cause of the problem is a blown fuse, your installation shop should be responsible for buying you a new fuse or fuses.  If all fuses, the battery and alternator are checked to be ok, have your stereo shop disconnect the wiring that provides power to audio equipment.  It may just be drawing too much power if there is a short in the system.

Have those items checked first, and hopefully your problem will be as simple as a fuse.  If it is a wiring problem caused by the stereo installation, then that shop should be responsible for the cost of fixing it.
Good luck!
