Mitsubishi Repair: 1993 mitsubishi eclipse 1.8 automatic electrical problem, mitsubishi eclipse, loose wires

Question
After numerous electrical repairs (this car is on alternator #3 in 5 years) my mechanic put an extra ground wire from the alternator to the body of the car. This definitely solved the problem, however... the ground wire has become unattached from the alternator and the car is again losing power. I have moved away from Tampa and am unable to contact the guy who did the work.  Any ideas where this ground wire attaches to the alternator?  I am a single mom on a budget and cannot afford to put anymore money into this car.  Have already spent in excess of 2K on numerous electrical in the past five years!  I would appreciate any help you can give me... I am certain I am capable of reattaching this wire if I know where it goes... Stacy Roland

Answer
Stacy,
To gain access to your alternator, you'll need to raise up the front of the car.  The alternator is located on the drivers side of the front of the car; you'll be able to see it better from under the car.  There is a harness that connects into the alternator, and that's where the ground wire is located.  That harness may just have slipped out.  If you feel comfortable enough to get under your car, you should be able to see any loose wires.  If the ground wire pulled out of the harness, you'll need to solder the wire back onto the harness.  But if the ground wire de-attached from the car's chassis, all you'll need to do is drill a little screw into your car's frame, and attach the wire to it.
Good luck!
