Motorcycle Repair: New Coil Wiring on Cub 50., cub honda, spark plug wire

Question
My Cub Honda 50 Coil went bad using the little Bike without it's Battery, sending a surge of current to the coil, shorting it out.  (I was told that by a Honda dealer) I ordered a new coil, but when I got it, is is the same type and size and mounting frame, but with only the Spark plug wire, and a thin Black colored wire with a Blue stripe.  The original coil had two. One Black and one Blue wire.  I notice that the coil has a short bare wire connected to the metal frame of the coil.  Can this coil still be used on My Honda 50? What do I do with the black wire with the push-on connector?  Plug it into where the (old) coil Black wire was?, or into the socket where the Blue wire came from?

Answer
Chuck, do you have a C100 or C102 model Cub? They have two different ignition systems and coils.

C100 is a magneto ignition and doesn't care if the battery is in it or not.

C102 is the electric-start model and does care if you have a battery in it.

C100 uses an AC coil.

C102 uses a DC coil.

The black wire goes to the ignition switch to ground out the sparks when you turn the key OFF.

Sounds like the wrong coil for whatever model you actually own. Be specific when asking for parts or assistance, please. Year/make/model/mileage and any related history helps me to help you....
