QUESTION: bike is a 2001 american iron horse legend 107 s&s engine(1819)
I had the battery stud on the solenoid break off, removed the 2 starter mounting bolts to remove the starter , but it would not slide out , kinda like it was hung up inside the housing. but since have found out it is a major job to remove the starter. Now as I write , I have successfully removed the solenoid without removing the starter assembly from the housing. The question now is will there be any kind of problem when I reinstall the starter after solenoid replacement.

Thanks, Keith

Answer
Since you didnt pull the starter out you should be ok. the jackshaft is attached to the starter inside the primary. Put is all back together and try it. If it doenst work, the you will have to remove the primary and check the jackshaft
Good luck and happy riding
