Motorcycle Repair: Battery Warning, yamaha xj1100, yamaha dealer

Question
Hi Bill, I have a 1982 Yamaha XJ1100 and my Battery Warning light is on. I have disconnected the battery while it is running and there is no change so I don't believe it is a charging problem. As well, the battery is still keeping a charge. I am guessing it is a sensor problem but have no idea how to test it or find it to replace it? Thanks so much for your time.

Answer
Duane.....  Obviously not a Honda question. The little bit of Yamahas that I have been exposed to seemed to use a fluid sensor to monitor battery water levels. If you buy a battery that is maintenance free, etc., there is no where to insert the sensor into the battery.

Dunno if you have to ground that sensor wire or leave it as an open circuit to turn out the light.  You'll have to consult your Yamaha dealer about that. IF there is no easy answer, just remove the bulb, as long as the battery is being charged okay.
