Motorcycle Repair: 1983 Honda V45 Magna 750 clutch issues, honda v45 magna, snap ring pliers

Question
Just got this bike. I am having issues with the clutch. At first the slave cylinder was leaking out the weep hole, so I removed and disassembled it and found that 3 of the 4 holes through the piston were clogged with a very large amount of debris. I cleaned that thoroughly with Brake parts cleaner, checked the seals (which all appear brand new), reassembled, and installed. The leak on the slave cylinder has stopped, but now when I try bleeding it I don't get the pressure I feel it should have. Looked at the brake master cylinder, but I don't see how to disassemble it. The lines all appear to be new, so I don't think they are expanding under pressure, so the only other thing that could be wrong is the master cylinder, right?

Answer
Kent, you will need a set of special long-nosed snap ring pliers to get the master cylinder apart after you pry the rubber boot/clip out from around the end of the piston.

The clutch side is notoriously difficult to bleed air out of, as well, so you could have one or both problems of air in the system and a weak master cylinder.

You have to check the master cylinder body for a good clean, straight piston bore inside. If moisture has etched the bore surfaces, then the piston cups won't hold pressure sufficiently to move the clutch slave piston forward.

When bleeding the line, start with the bottom first (using a vacuum pump system is helpful) and then bleed the fitting at the master cylinder last.
