Motorcycle Repair: rm 125, air screw, cluch


Question
i have an 96 rm125 motor is fresh when i get down on the bike feels like its tryin to run out of gas on topend pull the cluch n and it revs pretty high but then it will kinda clear out some times it wont it still will run but at an idle but wont take gas but in the woods i dont have problem just every now n then just mainly on the road i replaced the coil and the carb jetting is stock air screw is 1 and a half turns out like the book said any info on what it could be would be great

Im not sure of the info you have given but sounds like it still needs jetting for some reason. Does the bike have an after market pipe or air cleaner. Also the mixture screw only works at the idle or low rpm. Try raising the needle at least 2 gooves in the slide and see if that helps and you may have to increase the main jet at least 2-3 sizes it sounds like the engine is starving  for fuel in the upper rpm range.The rule of thumb is pilot or low speed jet and the mixture screw work at idle to 1/4 throttle. The slide needle in the emulsion tube works from 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle and the main jet works from just under 3/4 throttle to wide open so it needs enough fuel to pull the engine under a load. That may be why it only revs up with the clutch pulled.
