Motorcycle Repair: head light knob on CL72, honda scrambler, headlight reflectors

what does the headlight knob do on a 1964 honda scrambler CL 72. Does it shut bike off and turn lights on and off ?

Joe, The big black knob on the headlight shell controls the lighting, turning the whole headlight and tail light circuits on or off. There are both 2 position (on-off) and some 3 position (off-park-on) versions. Bikes sold outside the US had "parking" lights in the headlight reflectors, along with replaceable headlight bulbs.
