Motorcycle Repair: Honda XL 175 broken kick start spindle, honda xl 175, cmsnl

Question
I have a 1974 Honda XL175 K1 that I've been restoring for a year or so. I just finished it a couple of months ago. It's registered complete and original, and runs very well, everyone comments on it after seeing it. A few days ago the kick starter spindle snapped off. I knew this was a problem for this model bike. After a lot of searching I was fortunate to obtain a brand new original Honda spindle. Do you know the procedure to remove & refit it.?
Someone told me it was easy but I'd like a motorcycle repairers advice.
Regards .

Answer
Trevor, the process takes up about 10 pages in a shop manual. I don't have the space here to add in a dozen photos and 20 paragraphs of text, in a step by step procedure.

Check E-bay or similar sources for copies of the shop manual, so you have a specific set of instructions. This service does not replace factory repair information. Whoever told you it was "easy" was mistaken.

Trevor, you are lucky to have found a new replacement part. They were a problem with this model. Unfortunately, you have to tear down the whole motor to replace the shaft.
