Motorcycle Repair: Kawasaki Bayou 220, kawasaki bayou 220, fourwheelers

Question
This ATV was running fine I replaced the coil and starter relay switch, and the other day I started it up and went to go into the pasture to check on the cattle I started over the hill and the engine made a growling noise then died and would not start, I pulled out the spark plug and checked for fire and it was firing I found that it had very little compression if any at all, I then proceeded to pull out the spark plug on my other 220 Bayou and checked for compression and it would blow my finger off the hole what could my problem be or without taking engine apart at this point how can I go about diagnosing this problem? Thank You in advance.

Answer
I think you may have found your own problem. I can't be for sure but the growling noise you heard could have been a bearing failing or the rings on the piston giving way. If you stated that it had almost no compression, short of pulling the cap on the cylinder to check valve clearance and make sure you don't have a valve hanging open; the engine may be in need of a rebuild. I have never really dealt with fourwheelers but, the concepts are still the same. I would honestly say that a loud noise then no compression, the motor gave out. I really can't think of an easy fix on that one. Sorry.
