Motorcycle Repair: engine problem, honda unicorn bike, insufficient levels

i own a Honda Unicorn Bike.Recently while riding the bike ,the engine automatically shut down,while the bike was in its peak speed. when checked, i found that my bike was without a drop of oil(was shocking for me because i service & Oil my bike at regular intervals)due to my fault of not checking the oil level at regular intervals.please let me know as to what are the disadvantages of riding a bike with insufficient levels of oil for a relatively longer period.does this result in total damage of engine.

oil removes heat and lubes moving parts. Without oil the parts that need lubed start rubbing together, metal to metal and wear out very quickly. Pistons will be damaged and seize. the motor probably needs to be rebuilt.
