Motorcycle Repair: 2009 Iron 883 fuel tuners and exhaust systems., air fuel mixture, heavy breather

Question
QUESTION: Ok this is a long story but im going to fill you in. I am looking to get a set of V&H short shots (black) and a V&H fuel pak. Well some say just get the pipes the fuel paks a waste and others are saying that i need the fuel pak (or a better tuner) and i will also have to purchase a heavy breather. What is your opinion will the fuel pak from vance be ok with the pipes alone or would the heavy breather be a must. Also would just the pipes alone no fuel pak at all be the way to go i was also told that as long as i dont change breathers i wouldnt run lean anyways. I went from $569 for pipe and fuel pak to over $800 with the breather just dont know what i really need but i want the bike right. Is the V&H short shots and fuel pak along with heavy breather a good setup what do i do.

ANSWER: When you change the pipes and air intake you will make the bike run lean. If it runs to lean, it runs hotter, you can burn a valve or over heat the motor. Even changing the pipes will lean it out. If you make the changes you need to add the tuner.
I cant comment on the vance and hines fuel pak. I have never used one. I write my own programing for the onboard computer
good luck and happy riding

QUESTION: Ok i just purchased a super tuner (never used) for $250 i thought this was a pretty good deal. What do you think of the screamin eagler super tuner with the pipes and screamin eagle heavy breather setup? Do you think i will notice a change?

Answer
You should notice a little change. You are not going to get alot more horses unless you change cams. The only problem you will have is knowing what the air/fuel mixture is. You are uploading maps and trying them to see how thery work
