Motorcycle Repair: slow turn signals, honda cb550, filament bulbs

Question
Bill,  i have a 1974 honda cb550 that has been in storage for a number of years!  The turn signals are operating very slowly; can you tell me what may cause this?

Answer
Gene, I would check all the turn signal bulb connections in the wiring harness, plus the ground connections and verify that you have the correct bulbs in the signal housings. The fronts are double filament 1157 type and rears are single filament bulbs. Beyond that, ensure that the battery is fully charged and passes a load test, the charging system is functioning properly keeping the system voltage above 13v while riding and if all else fails you may have to replace the flasher unit, which can be purchased at most auto parts stores.
