Motorcycle Repair: Honda c105 54cc trail, air leaks, compression stroke

Question
My trail runs great but it will not idle. When the bikes is almost completely stopped it shuts off. I cleaned the carburetor and replaced the air filter. What kind of things can cause the bike to not idle? It doesn't even try to idle.

Answer
Garrett, in order for the bike to run and idle properly, you need:

Compression.. about 100 psi. Check the valve clearances cold at .002" on intake/exhaust valves on compression stroke.

Spark, with timing set at the F mark on the flywheel as the points open. C7HS (C7HA may be substitute) spark plug is standard.

Fuel/air from the idle jet. Idle mixture screw turned out about 1 to 1 1/2 turns to begin with.

Make sure you don't have any intake manifold air leaks....
