QuestionQUESTION: I HAVE A 72 TRIUMPH 650 TIGER, AND IT WAS RUNNING GREAT. I DO ALL MY OWN REPAIRS, IM A TECH MYSELF. SO RECENTLY I REPLACED ALL THE GASKETS TO THE TOP END CUZ OF OIL LEAKAGE,SET ADJUST THE VALVES, AND I REPLACED THE POINTS, SET ADJUST, AND IT DOESNT WANT TO START FOR NOTHIN, HAS STRONG SPARK, COMPRESSION OF 125+ AND I ALSO WENT THROUGH THE CARB. ANY IDEAS OR INFO THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL? THANK YOU

1. are your plugs wet or dry, do they smell like gas?
2. when you changed the points, did you leave the backing plate in the bike or remove it?
3. what did you set your valves at?
4. does the bike pop or backfire or make any effort to do anything.?

QUESTION: THE PLUGS ARE NOT SOILED IN GAS, OR NOT SUPER DRY, I HAVE TRIED STARTING FLUID AND NOTHIN.I LEFT THE BACKING PLATE IN WHEN I CHANGED THE POINTS WHICH I SET AT .015. I SET MY VALVES AT IN.-.004 AND EX.-.05. THE BIKE MAKES NO EFFORT AT ALL TO START. I HAVE THE STOCK COILS THAT ARE THE OIL FILLED AND IM SURE THEY HAVE SOME MILES ON THEM AND HAVE HEARD THEY DRY UP AND GO BAD. WOULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM EVEN WITH IT STILL HAVIN SPARK? THANKS AGAIN
Answerremove your valve inspection caps , rotate the engine slowly, and watch that all of your valves are opening and closing properly...and that you can "wiggle" each rocker a little bit with the valve closed...
How far did you tear down the motor?just the rocker boxes or head and jug...
If you have good spark and you are absolutely sure that you are getting fuel, you are confident that your valve adjustment is correct and that you got the rocker boxes back on the bike with the pushrods back on the balls of the rocker arms...Ive missed this a few times myself in a hurry...then the only thing left is timing
When you tickle the carb does fuel run out like it should?
Have you checked static timing?
