my 09 yamaha yz 250 is stuck in first gear. it will go in to neautral but no further

First thing to check for is a bent shift shaft.  If it is strait,then you are going to have to start digging deeper...it could be a bad shift quadrant or a bent shift fork...you may end up pulling the motor down and going through the trans...no easy answer on this one...sorry
