Motorcycle Repair: acceleration problem, air fuel mixture, cb650

Question
I have a 1980 CB650 I just got done putting a new engine on it and now have the problem that I have no power once I hit mid throttle.  I soaked the carbs in cleaner for about 2 hours (maybe not enough) but also I'm using the carbs off from an old engine and they have size 100 jets.  I have plenty of power starting out and once I get to about half throttle I start to decelerate.  Could this be from the carbs still being dirty or could it be from my jets being too big?  I am also going to check my valve clearance.  I checked my cam position and the timing on the pulse generator and those are correct.  The spark plugs have less than 100 miles on them but they sat for 2 years unused.  I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give on this situation.  Thankyou

Answer
Sorry for the delayed response, I've been out in the yard burying a drain pipe. Joe the problem could be too rich or too lean of an air fuel mixture.  When it looses power, apply a little choke and seei if it picks up.  If it does, it's too lean.  THe float levels could be too low, or as you say, the jets could be still plugged up.  I've never had much luck just soaking the carbs.  I always take them completely apart and make sure the jets and passages are completely clean.

If the engine doesn't run better with a little choke, you are running too rich and you need to lower the float levels a little bit.  Try lowering them abou 1 mm at a tim until it runs cleanly.
