Motorcycle Repair: 86 Shadow 1100 oil leak behind clutch cyl-shifter rod-engine oil, clutch slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder

Question
HI-newly aquired 1986 shadow 1100- oil spurting from the cast passage for it to, located behind the clutch slave cylinder.
Told by honda tech that I needed to remove the left side cover and replace a seal inside there, as well as the small round seal on the slave for the clutch actuator rod.

Tech was unable to point out needed part on 'fiche to parts dept!
Help! part diagram referance #? honda part#?

If I drain engine/trans oil and remove left outer case cover- will it be obvious whats going on?
I have read there was an inner seal, but never a reply about specifics on replacement- please help me get my  baby back on the road.
It was most distressing to stop at a light and have smoke rise up and oil spurting out~
thanks!!!

Tom, go to:

the clutch slave cylinder assembly is along the left side of the illustration.

Remove the slave cylinder and use the hydraulic pressure to push the piston out of the cylinder bore. Clean all parts with brake cleaner or alcohol, then install new seal and piston cup parts, along with anything
else that needs replacing.

I can tell you that bleeding the line will be very challenging, but treat it like a wheel cylinder/caliper and you will eventually get all the air out of the line and the function will return.... assuming that the clutch master cylinder is okay.

You don't have to drain the oil, unless it has been contaminated by brake fluid or other substances. Just unbolt the part and it will be in your hand and ready to work on. The seal is to separate the oil from leaking beyond the outer cover.
