Motorcycle Repair: motorcycle storage, motorcycle storage, winnipeg canada

Question
Mike on a 97 sporty 883 winter storage should i drain the oil tank i was told that the oil would seep past a check valve during winter i live in winnipeg canada and the temp in the garage will go as low as 20 below the bike will not be run during winter storage i will start with fresh oil and filter in spring.any other storage tips would be helpfull..             thanks Mike

Answer
If the oil hasnt weeped int he past, then it probably wont. Start the bike and let it warm up and change the oil and filter before storage. You are getting rid if the carbon and acid in the oil system that way. Then restart the bike and let it warm up and shut the petcock off and let the carb go dry. Fil the gas tank and either put some stablizer in it or do what I like to do, drain the gas and put in fresh. Put the battery on a battery tender to keep it charged and it will last longer
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
