Motorcycle Repair: Temperature Gauge honda shadow, temp gauge, temperature gauge

Question
Hi I just recently came back from a trip to NM.  It was about 2000 miles
round trip.  On the way back my temp gauge started to go off.  Now it goes
off 5 min after I start riding around town.  Fluids are full, no bugs on the
radiator.  Water pump or thermostat perhaps?  I've never worked on
motorcycles before so was wondering if this is something I can take care of
myself once I know what the problem is.  Thank you.

Answer
The problem is either the sender or the gage itself.  Pull the connector off the sender and ground it.  The gage should peg to the hot side.  Then unground the wire and it should go all the way to the cold side.  It that all works, it's probably the sender and you'll need to replace it.  If that doesn't work, it's the gage and you'll need to find a replacement.
