Motorcycle Repair: clutch problems, 1975 honda cb360t, clutch adjustment

Question
i have a 1975 honda cb360t and im restoring it after it sitting for about 18 years and i have replaced the cluth cable but the clutch still wont slip when the lever is pulled...i have rebuild the clutch and it still wont budge.

Answer
Well, that could be a couple of things.  First you need to make sure little 6 mm ball bearing is in the lifter crank mechanism on the left hand sprocket cover. If it's not there you don't have enough adjustment to get the clutch to release.

Secondly, you need to adjust the cable to shorten the cable as much as you can to there as much cable length as possible.  This will give you as much future adjustment as possible without having to re-adjust the clutch.  Then loosen lock nut on the clutch adjustment and take a flat blade screw driver and turn the adjustment counter clockwise (I think).

If you pull in on the clutch level lightly, you will feel the slack take up in the cable as you adjust it.  Turn the screw until you feel some resistance and then turn it in 1/2 turn and tighten up the lock nut.  If everything is assembled correctly your clutch should be properly adjusted.  Next adjust the cable length adjusters to get the right free play at the the clutch lever.  You want about 1/2 in of movement in clutch lever before it starts to pull in the clutch.  This will make sure the clutch will be fully engaged all the time.

Good luck
