Motorcycle Repair: oil carry over, 2 quarts, dip stick

Question
Hello I have a concern about oil carry over. This year I bought a brand new 07 street bob so I took it in for the 1000 mile service. I now have 1138 mile on it and noticed the bike is jerking and not smooth any more and it has a cough. Today I was adding a sissy bar to my bike and noticed an oil leak on the lower rocker arm so I decide to do an inspection on my bike and when I checked the oil dip stick with the bike cold and found the oil limit was way over the full mark I'd guess at least 2 quarts over. I'm now worried about engine damage and would like to know if it's possible to diagnos and check for any sighs of damage? Monday morning I'm going down to the hd service department and file a complaint. I just hope no damage was done to the engine of my new bike. Please reply input is appreciated thanks

Answer
Your oil might be to high, but if it was two guarts overfilled the oil would run out the dipstick hole. If it were me I would take it back, however and have them check it since its not running right and is over filled. If there is to much oil you can damage a seal, but it would make it run rough. In order the check to see why its running bad a dianostic would have to be run on it.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
