Motorcycle Repair: 1988 Sporster primary cover removal?, clutch cable, slipping clutch

Question
Gday Mike, I have a 1988 Sporster and it has a slipping clutch which I would like to fix, only problem is the primary cover won't come off. Is there some thing that I cannot see that may be restricting removal? The cover seems to be stuck on the clutch cable mechanism or similar. Look forward to finding the cause. Cheers Peter.

Answer
First, loosen the cable. then screw the chain pad adjuster downward to loosen it. It is located under the primary.
Remove the clutch adjuster cover from the primary cover. Under it you will see a spring and a nut. remove them. there is another nut with a screw in the center of it. That screw is the clutch adjuster screw. Turn the screw, with a screwdrive, so that the inside nut comes off. then you can remove the primary cover
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
