Motorcycle Repair: instrument cluster, electronic speedo, blown fuses

Question
I have a 96 honda cbr f3..recently while riding I lost all power..after some tinkering I found that my ignition fuse was blown and kept blowing each time i put one in..also my battery died at the same time...i think this some how caused my lowbeam to short out because after disconnecting it and replacing the battery the bike ran fine..so i replaced my low beam bulb and no more blown fuses...could this somehow have also shorted out my instrument cluster...since all this happend it dosn't work...i still have lights and horn turn signals and even temp..gauge..but no speedo or tach..being as they are pricy I would like to be fairly sure that it is shorted out...I did take it apart and checked all the wiring and all is in order no cut wires...all the fuses are in good order...any ideas...I know you deal with earlier models but am hoping maybe you can shed some light...thanks for any help you can give me with this...

Answer
George,

a dead short like this could do alot of damage,
I don't see the relationship between the
lights and tach or speedo other than they are
all on the wiring harness. The tachometer hooks
up to the main ignition module, green/yellow
wires I believe. If your short whereever
it was damaged the module, the tach may quit.
Do you have an electronic speedo? If so, it
may hook up to the module as well.
If you feel the short is eliminated, I would
wait awhile before replacing anything expensive.
You may have just moved some wires while
replacing the low beam etc.
I am wondering if the problem is fixed or if
it was possibly a shorted battery.
If it does blow a fuse again, put a test
light across the fuse holder and disconnect things
until the light goes out or gets dim. This might
help find the problem.
Because the speedo and tach went out at the same time
I suspect poor grounds or possibly the electronic
module under the seat or it's connector bad or
corroded.
