Motorcycle Repair: 1982 Yamaha Maxim 400 Question..., xs400, throttle cable

Hi There,

I just got a (supposedly) 1982 Yamaha Maxim 400.  I'm trying to find a set of coil packs (with bolts) & a throttle cable for it & am having a hard time even calling places because half of them tell me there was no 82 maxim 400 & the other 1/2 is telling me that the 10th digit on the VIN # being a C indicates that it's a 78; which I guess there was no 78.  Help please!

the 10 digit being a "C" means it is a 1982 model.
The Maxim officially came out in 83 but
your bike may have been manufactured in 82 for the
83 year model.
Otherwise your bike is a 1982 XS400 special,
which is basically a maxim anyway.
