Motorcycle Repair: Battery not charging Marauder, regulator rectifier, quick responce

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

My battery on my 99 Suzuki Marauder is not charging. On bikebandit.com the electrical schematic does not show a alternator, am I to assume that the coil/igniter is the actual item that charges?

Respectfully

David Dzeryk

ANSWER: David,
After checking all your fuses, connections, battery terminals, battery etc. You will need to check the "stator"
and the rectifier. It is listed under "electrical" at bikebandit. The stator is down on the engine
and usually has three wires coming out. These produce
"AC" current which goes to the rectifier to be
converted to "DC" volts for charging.
If you don't have at least 13.5 volts on the battery
when running, you may have a problem with the stator
and/or rectifier. Double check for any bad connections
or broken wires. Disconnect and check the stator output.
Approx 60 volts between the wires with meter set on
"AC". Any two wires of the three should read the same.

Question: Is the control unit ST the stator? If these two things are OK what's next? Does the Coil Assy, IGNIT charge the batteries or does the battery power this thing?

Thanks in advance

David

Answer
No, the control unit is not the stator.
The coil assy, IGNIT is for your ignition
system not the charging system.

The stator provides the power for charging,
and then it goes to the regulator/rectifier
and then to the battery.
The stator is here:

You will likely need to check the stator as I described
in my other post.
