Motorcycle Repair: suzuki bandit 1200s, suzuki bandit, suzuki tech

Question
Hi, I was driving my Suzuki bandit 1200s to school one day and everytime i downshifted it would die, i would have to pull the accelerator back and press the start button for about 3 minutes before it would eventually start, but once it started, as long as i did not let it slow down it ran fine, when i let go of the accelerator going 60 mph everything shut off, the bike drifted to a stop and it will not start back up, turning the key presents nothing, no lights come on, the guages still read 60mph and 4000 rpm's, also when it died there was oil dripping from somewhere but it had plenty of oil in it when i started driving

thanks,
Doyle

Answer
Hi Doyle,

Check the engie oil volume (level). I suspect the cranckcase may have gasoline mixed with the oil as a result of varnished carburetors.

Avoid cranking the engine longer than about 15 seconds at a time to prevent the starter motor from overheating. Allow time between starting attempts for cooling.

I recommend that you have a local Suzuki tech inspect the stalling problem for you. He/she can quickly analyze and diagnose any electrical problems.
