Motorcycle Repair: 1974 harley sportster xl iron head, harley sportster, crank case

hi mike my name is tim and im new to harley i got a 1974 sportster right side shift and on the crank case side the right side there a tube off the casing that when i start the bike up it with leak oil from the tube it that the norm?

you must be talking about the vent on the cam cover. Over time they will leak somewhat. What is happening is you have some oil driping past the oil pump when the bike isnt running. When you start it the oil cant be pumped out fast enough and it gets vented out theis tube.
